When Something Can Go Wrong...

...IT WILL!!!

That has to be the story of my day.

Tomorrow I'm going to NYC to see Common. So, of course I want to look fly. You know...fresh hair do, fresh pedicure and manicure, flawless make-up and sexy/classy outfit...the works. These are things that I do or maintain on a regular basis, but this week I'm looking good with a purpose.

Let's start with the hair. Now, I have a standing appointment every 2 weeks. I get the same hairdo I just put the part on different sides of my head. I get my hair washed, blowed, curled tightly and wrapped. Simple...right. So, my appointment was actually last week. I went got a perm and the regular...cool. Under normal circumstances my hair holds up 2 weeks, hence the bi-weekly appointments. But, this time it get's messed up. Like an idiot I go and play laser tag on Tuesday completely sweating my hair out, bruising my knee and damn near passing out from all the running. I know, I know...I'm the most out of shape petite woman you know :) Let's not forget there was a Monsoon outside on Tuesday, so my hair was a mess. It was a complete travesty! I called my beautician Eric and he said he would hook me up on the low at his house...problem fixed, right? WRONG. So, I venture over to E's house to get my wig laid. I'm humming and shit because he's actually helping me out. First of all Eric has a cat and I'm allergic. But, fuck it my hair needs doing. (The lengths we go to, to look good) So, when I walk in I decide to get a roller set instead because I've been wanting one for the longest. I know some women reading this are probably thinking, "Girl, you're just now getting a rollerset? " Yes, I am. Where I'm from we just blow it, curl it and keep it moving. He rolls me up, puts me under the dryer, takes the rollers out, wraps me up and I'm out. So, this morning I get up and unwrap my hair and damn near start crying. This is the heaviest, shiniest looking roller-set I have ever seen!!!! I like my hair to flow and bounce. NOT lay all to the side with humps all over my head! See, it wasn't broke and now I got to fix it. I'm crossing my fingers and toes that tomorrow after wrapping it another day that it'll look good to me. I have to add the -to me- part because people keep telling me it doesn't look bad. But, if I don't like it then it isn't right!!! DAMMIT!!!

Now, let's discuss my eye. So, last night when I made it home I got undressed, put on my pajamas and laid out. Then all of a sudden my left eye starts itching BAD! So, I'm rubbing and rubbing and rubbing until it hurt too much to rub. You know how when something is in your eye and you're rubbing to get out your eye starts watering? Well, I rubbed it so much that after it started watering it dried back up. I'm looking all in the mirror trying to find the culprit of this massive eye itch only to find nothing. But, my eye was killing me and I could barely keep it open because it was so irritated. So, I got a warm towel put it on my eye and went to sleep. Why did I wake up this morning and my entire left eye was swollen and throbbing?!?!? I mean, I had one big bag under my eye and I could barely open it. WTF! How in the hell am I suppose to jump off the bus with a swollen eye. Not to mention I wanted to wear my contacts this weekend. And, no they are not colored contacts!!! When my boss saw me today he was like, "Dynasty are you sick again?!" Throughout the day it slowly went down, but it still hurts. I'm afraid to go to sleep tonight scared that it'll happen again.

After work I went to the nail shop to get a mani and pedi. The heffa cut me twice!!! WTF! She cut me once on the toe and once on the finger. I mean I just can't get right for some odd reason. She's lucky I didn't kick her ass in the throat for that.

Hopefully, all this trouble I'm going through isn't a clue as to what my weekend has in store. Please believe I will hightail it back to the Bean if this trip doesn't over compensate for all the trouble I'm going through. Not to mention, I don't even know how I'm getting to the bus station. I'm not even going to worry my pretty little head over it, though. I have more pressing things to worry about like, what the hell am I going to wear?! I feel like a little school girl with a highschool crush. I LOVE IT!!!

Quarter Mid-Life Crisis

I was reading through a blog that I have bookmarked, Chubby Chocolate and she wrote a post that caught my attention entitled, "Slumped Catharisis". This blog entry hit the nail on the head of what I've been feeling and going through lately. Finally someone has given it a name. I would like to introduce...drum roll please...the Quarter Mid-Life Crisis.

Just the other day my roommate and I were having dinner and I was trying to break this feeling down to her. I have this itch to do something different, but I have no clue what it is. All my life I have wanted to be a lawyer...Clair Huxtable was my idol. I mean I only went to undergrad because I couldn't just apply straight to law school. I was and have been one of the only people I know that knew what they wanted to do coming out of college. Regardless of the fact that I didn't go straight to law school after graduation, I still knew in my heart that, that was my destiny. Currently, I'm slated to take the LSAT on December 3rd. WHOOPIE, right? WRONG! For some reason, that I can not explain, I am no longer excited about law school. First of all, I was orginally scheduled to take the LSAT in October. I had to switch the date and pay extra because I wasn't prepared. Why was I not prepared? Because I am no longer motivated to go. I have all the study materials. I have all the resources from lawyers, to people fresh out of law school, to people still in law school, but I don't care.

So, that has started me to thinking and praying about what to do next. For some reason I have this urge to do something other than what I'm doing now. As I mentioned in previous posts, I like my job and I'm on the fast track. I have the dream job that allows me to wear many different hats and once I'm out of the program I'm guaranteed a managerial posistion. I travel and I'm learning a lot, but it's not enough. This same urge propelled me to enroll in college. I had been out of highschool for 2 years before I went to college. This same urge got me to move to Boston and accept a job offer. This urge usually means that it's time to shake some things up and make a few moves, which have proven to be good moves so far. The problem is that I don't know what move to make. Nothing interests me. Along with this urge, God usually lays the plan on my mind as well, but this time all I have is the urge.

I have also been thinking about going back to school. My company will pay for my graduate degree 100%, so why not take advantage....right? I don't want to take the GMAT! It's that simple. I've started looking up schools that don't require the GMAT, but they all seem to be some kind of internet schools and that's not happening. Perhaps, someone that is reading this could post some ideas or opinions about universities that don't require the GMAT. I have a friend who went to one in STL, but it actually had a campus and she landed a really good job with a reputable company, so I know that they can'e be all that bad. Let me know what you think.

I just need something to do. I need a light to go off in my head that motivates me to shuffle my feet. Last night at the Sushi gathering, I was talking to this guy I know named Manny and we were having this conversation. During the conversation he asked me what motivates me. At first I just looked at him blankly with my head tilted. I had never actually set down and figured that out. As I looked at him it dawned on me that I am motivated by recognition, notority, fame. Money is a motivating factor, but it's not the end all be all. Then he asked me if I had any hobbies. Again, the dazed look came over my face and I tried to think of one. I love to read...but, that's about it. I'm not artistic. I can't paint or do poetry. I can't chorograph no dance steps. As I explained to him, I don't think with that side of my brain. I'm an analytical thinker. I have common sense and I'm quick on my feet. I can argue any point. I also think that I have good organizational skills. I can plan and organize any event. I will say that I'm an leader and I need to do something that puts me in a leadership role. Something that allows me to make decisions and call the shots. Talking to Manny helped me to put a few things into perspective, but now that I see a little light at the end of the tunnel what am I to do with it.

Another idea that has been tap dancing across my mind is starting my own business. I don't want to put the idea on blast because someone my steal it then when I finally decide to act on it, it's too late. But, I will say that I have ran the idea by a few people and all of them have gave me the thumps up on the idea. But, I'm scared. What if I don't make it? What if I can't get a loan? Then what? Needless to say, I have been getting my credit in order because something big is about to happen...I can guarantee you that, but what.

I know you're probably thinking what does getting my credit together have to do with anything. Well, credit is the key. Whether I go to law school, grad school, start a business, or simply move to another state (which will require me to buy instead of rent. I refuse to move into another apartment), I need to have my credit in order to have doors open that would otherwise be shut. Someone will have to give me a loan for something and I don't want any obstacles in the way. You feel me?

I discussed this with Common and his advice was to continue to pray and keep my eyes and ears open for opportunities and open doors. The way he figures it, everything will work itself out in time. And, I agree. But, anyone that knows me knows that I can't just sit still. I will say that reading Chubby's post took a load off my shoulders. It let me know that I'm not going through this state of unmotivated confusion alone. Damn, how long does this Quarter Mid-life Crisis last...I'll be 27 soon...Geesh!

Sushi, Sake & Soul...

That was the theme of the party I went to last night. My soror, friend, and mentor (we'll call her Polished, because that's how she acts...LOL! You gotta love her) threw this party along with a few friends. They call themselves the Dining Divas...how cute. It's a group of women between the ages of 30 to mid-40's that meet once a month to experience different cuisines in Boston and this was their second annual party centered around an Asian theme. It was really nice. So, nice that I had to blog about it.

You know that I had to really want to go because it was raining hard when me and Dora left my house headed to the party. I was pissed because I had on these stylish colorful sequined shoes. I had to dress jazzy because Polished had already told me at the hair salon on Thursday that I should wear something glittery or get this...a cocktail dress!!! LOL! Who goes out and buys a cocktail dress?! Beats me, so I opted for some jeans a peach off the shoulder shirt that had this sparkly sequined design on the shoulder and my colorful sequined shoes. I looked pretty good if I must say so myself (((as I brush my shoulders off)))

The party took place in the club house of an apartment complex in Quincy. I can't lie...I didn't know what to expect when I arrived, but I was impressed when I walked in. As soon as I walk through the door these two sexy men are standing in the doorway. I smile at one and he tells his boy something and turns around and I smile at him. I'm thinking...okay this may be a good night. So far I see two men that I don't know, which says a lot. I go out enough in Boston to pretty much know or have seen all the men...at least that's what it feels like (((rolling my eyes))) As luck would have it I did in fact know about 4 people there. My boy Sekou was there and it's always good to see him. He's hilarious, so I get a kick out of talking to him. He so happened to be sitting with this married couple I just met at the convention in San Diego. It's weird that once you meet people you start seeing them everywhere. I had never seen these people in my life, and now every corner I turn there they are. Well, its proving to be a pleasure every time I see them, though. The husband is funny and gay. I don't see how the wife doesn't realize it. They've been married for 2 months and they seem to do good together, but clearly he's gay. I realized that the first time he opened his mouth. I mean from his gestures, to the way he sounds, you can just tell. I have no problem with him being gay, but stop the charade. What makes me shake my head is how-1. He went and got married knowing damn well he's gay and 2. She either doesn't realize it or she doesn't care as long as she's married. Regardless, they are some fun people to be around and I'm glad I've met them. Back to my evening.

Okay, the place was set-up really nice and cozy. I immediately realized why Polished gave such elaborate directions on dress. Some of these women actually had on cocktail dresses. I wish I had taken pictures to post. This one lady had a dress that was bunched up all over and tight. She looked like a walking lobster. One lady had on a whole sequined top. She put my little sequined shoulder to shame. I mean it was overkill. As soon as I seen the husband and wife team they were like, "I'm so glad you have on jeans because we almost turned around and walked out." The spread was a little lavish. They had different variations of Sushi and Sake. Unfortunately, I haven't made that leap into the sushi world, so I didn't partake. But, they did have filet mignon wrapped in bacon...yum! There was hot and cold sake, Asian beer, wine, etc. The music was set low to allow adequate conversation and the lights were dimmed with candles lit all around. It was definitely a classy event.

This was also an opportunity for me to meet Polished's new beau. She met this guy through E-Harmony about 6 months ago and he lives in Philly. They have been dating heavily since their first meeting and she seems to be pretty smitten by this guy. She flys there every other weekend and on occasion he comes to Boston. I guess not all men on the internet are weirdos. She seems to have gotten lucky in that respect. I have heard so much about him that when we were introduced it felt like I already knew him. Honestly, he's not attractive by far, but his personality is beautiful. You want to talk about funny...this man is a riot and very down to earth, which is surprising judging from is career. One would think that he would be stuffy and uptight. In the spirit of keeping peoples identities secret I can't reveal his job because then he can be googled. :) I digress. Polished can be precieved as a little stuffy and full of herself, so to meet this easy going man I was shocked. Polar opposites!

The evening ended a little after midnight. Thank God! I was bored as hell. You can sit there and talk to the same people about nothing only for so long. I swear, sometimes these events are so stuffy that they aren't even worth going to. I get sick of making small talk with people I have nothing in common with. People who are just trying to size me up. Lord knows I could have stayed my ass in the house watching movies, but I had to support my girl's event. In all fairness, you do need a balance of parties like this, crunk parties, house parties and quite evenings at home. Unfortuantely, it was still raining and very brick outside when we left. Boy was I glad to get back in the house.

Around 2 in the morning, Common comes drunk calling me. He's down in Tallahassee at his Alum, FAMU. It was FAM's homecoming this weekend. Needless to say, when he met up with his frat brothers they acted a damn fool. Please believe I know because I got play by play phone calls at every point of their foolishness...LOL! It's all good, though. I actually thought it was cute that he kept calling me when he could have been doing God only knows what. But, then again he could have kept calling me, so I wouldn't call him in the middle of him doing something he has no business doing...HMMM...Trying to throw a sistah off the scent.

TODAY

I really need to run some errands today. That way I'll feel like I accomplished something this weekend...mind games. My beautician is having a lingerie party today and my boy
Greg Lee is having a few people over to watch the game, so I might slide through there. We'll see. What I do know is I need to get my ass up and moving....

You don't say (((wink)))

Your Seduction Style: Prized Object

The seduction game you play is tried, true, and still effective: hard to get.
You know that the best seducers turn the tables - and get their crush to seduce them.
The one running has the power, and you're a challenge that is worth the chase.

You are a master of enticing and pulling back. Giving a little and taking some away.
You are controlled enough to know rewards come after a long seduction dance.
Even though you want to call, email, or say "I love you" first - you don't!

You're style is the perfect mix of hot and cold - so much so that you have many suitors.
Think Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany's ... or any of those creepy guys from the Bachelor.
You're skilled at inspiring a chase. The real test is picking the person to slow down for.

I'm Back...Again!

Whew! I swear traveling across country is for the birds! I caught a red-eye back to Boston Saturday night just so I could have the entire Sunday to myself. I didn't do anything Sunday, but lay on my sofa and watch Lifetime, my guilty pleasure.

I miss San Diego already!

The weather was beautiful and the sun was was shining so brightly. The conference went very well. This was my first year in attendance, so I didn't know what to expect. All everyone kept telling me was that I was going to find my husband. NOT! From what I'm told, attendance was down this year from last year. One can only speculate that the disaster in New Orleans and the change of venu is the reason for this. I'm told that a lot of people had a hard time changing their flights and hotels around. Oh Well! I wasn't on the husband prowl anyway. I did make some good contacts for law school, though.

Common performed on Thursday at the Diageo party. From what I hear the party was off the chain. Unfortunately, I didn't make it. During the conference that day I took a Theraflu strip. I figured that since it was just a strip it couldn't be that powerful. WRONG! After the conference my co-workers and I went to dinner and had a few drinks. Then, we attended our company's hospitality suite, where we had a few more glasses of wine. Then we went to the Target hospitatilty suite, which was actually a party. I'll talk about that more later. So, anyway...during all of this I'm feeling unusually tired and woozy. So, we get back to the hotel to change and meet up with some more people and I couldn't move. I could not get up and go out. Anyone that knows me, knows that I had to be in pretty bad shape to miss a party, let alone COMMON for $5!!! Oh, well maybe next time. Please belive that when Dora came stumbling in that night she rubbed it in my face. Not only was the party $5...the drinks were free!!! WTF!!! Damn...I got's to be more careful!

Now on to Target...they set it off. I was so impressed by their entire presence at the conference. From the style and size of their booth, to their recruiting techniques, to the hospitality/party suite. I mean they even had the nerve to have a Targetini at the party, which flowed down ice sculptures into Target branded martini glasses! And, they had Target branded cameras all over the place for everyone to capture the experience...LOL! The room was red, the lights were red, bulls eyes were swirling all around the room. The buffets was full of lobster, shrimp, and ribs. The DJ was crunk and the dance floor was packed. I think I need a job at Target ;-O

Friday after the conference I had to make up for all the time I lost Thursday night because I did the dummy of taking medicine and drinking...DOH! So, once business was over we hit the streets again. We went to the club within walking distance from the hotel. Luckily we stayed downtown and everything was in walking distance. I had an OK time. I met these 2 Indian dudes...Frick and Frack. They were cute and funny as hell. Frack had me on the dance floor doing a combination of the robot and break dancing. I just had to stand there, look and accept the culture difference...LOL! Me and my girls were on the patio and we look up and this Guerilla Black looking dude pulls up in a Bentley. So, we walk back in the club and introduce ourselves and start chilling with them for a while. Unfortunatly, my girl got hemmed up by Guerilla who was trying to spit some lame ass game. Actually, it was a cool night...aside from a few shits and giggles. I will say that by the end of the night your girl was feeling nice...

As I mentioned earlier, I caught a red-eye Saturday night. So, Saturday after we checked out the hotel we just did a little sight seeing, ate and chilled. My girl Dora got a call from this dude she met Friday night to come and hang out. Our flight wasn't until 11 and it was 8, so we met up with him at this hole in the wall juke joint. He was a young Mike Epps...funny as hell. I was mad that he hadn't called us earlier. We chilled out with him for a few hours and bounced to the airport.

Needless to say, my life at work after the trip has been hectic. I mean work on top of work. I'm just glad that it's Friday and I can relax.

Gotta go and finish some stuff up before I leave, so I'll holla....

San Diego

I did, in fact, make it back from NYC...now I'm in San Diego for the National Black MBA Conference. NYC was cool, but expect a lot more action out here.

From the moment I stepped off the plane this morning the sun was kissing my skin. It's so beautiful out here. You know I had to hit the mall after I checked into the hotel. Fortunately, we are staying downtown right in the thick of things. As a matter of fact, the House of Blues is next door to the hotel. I'm tired as hell, though. My body is on east coast time, but my brain is vibing with the west. Oh well, I'm going to have to suck it up because today is my roommates birthday, so we are going to paint the town red tonight before we have to get down to business tomorrow.

My role at the conference is 2-fold. In order for my company to fund this wonderful trip I had to volunteer to be on the recruiting team. So, I'm here to work and network. It's cool. I like where I work, so I'm not really in the job market, but it doesn't hurt to stay on top of what's out there in the job market. So, I'm looking forward to the conference...not to mention I intend to stay out here a day after the conference is over...let's call that a prolonged vacation :)

NYC

When I went to NYC this past weekend I had a really good time. I met some pleasent people. People that are long friendship material. One person inparticular caught my eye. I'll call him Common because his swagger is so similar. Anyway, Common and I vibed at first sight. As a result, I'll be back in NYC the weekend after next checking for him.

Instant karma is a metaphor I haven't quite embraced. As I mentioned in a previous post, I want to be swept off my feet but as soon as someone comes at me seriously I clam up. I'm mentioning this because Common is coming at me like it's love at first sight. Get this...I have been invited to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family. I know, sudden! Don't get me wrong he and I have a lot in common, so far and we vibe on many different levels. So far, he seems like he has a lot teach, but he realizes that he also has a lot to learn. The devil on my left shoulder is telling me...this is a feeble attempt to get some booty. You know that weak ass I love you game because the dude doesn't know what else to do to get some booty? I'm sure all women have ran across it and all men have tried it at least once knowing damn well that he's not that into you. But, the angel on my right shoulder is telling me to be cool and see. In all fairness, not all men are dogs and not all men are out to JUST get some ass. But, you must admit that those men are few and far inbetween.

Nevertheless, I'll keep the updates coming as I am just as interested to see what happens. Since Common is a college friend of Dora's I'm more willing than I would usually be to opening up. I've done the prelimanery background check and nothing foul came up, so here we go.....

I'm about to take a nap...

Gone for the weekend...

I am going to NYC this weekend, so I'll update my blog with all the funny stories when I make it back. I'm going to hang out with Dora and some of her friends that have recently moved to NYC, so this should be a fun packed weekend...hopefully...LOL!

Nothing really has been going on with me since I last blogged.

My girl Esha threw a "Shot Party", that left everyone with a hangover the next morning. I mean the girl had about 10 different variations of shots floating around the party. It was a blast. I got to meet some new people, finally. There was this GORGEOUS Asian dude that stopped through. He was a friend of a friend. Not only was he fine, he was funny, too. I love a good looking man that doesn't have his head stuck up his ass. I can't remember dudes name for the life of me, but I do remember that he was FINE!!!!

My night had to end abruptly, though. The brought Tenderoni to the party with me because he didn't have anything to do. Crazy was having company this weekend (a man), so he would have be a third wheel. So, being the party director that I am I invited him to hang out and meet some people. Cool Beans!!! Right? WRONG? This negroid decides to act his age by the end of the night. Did I mention that he is 21? Anyway, it's about 3:30 in the morning and the party had died down some, but there were about 10 people still there playing cards, talking shit, still drinking...you know just hanging out. Esha's not the kind of hostess that kicks people out. I mean, my girl had strawberries chilling in a bowl for the waffles she planned on making in the morning for everyone that stayed over...I digress. So, a few fellas are playing spades and I'm standing there seeing the game, but not really watching it...LOL! Now, earlier in the night I noticed that when Tenderoni played spades he didn't set his hand up. How ever they were dealt to him is how he held them in his hand...a definite recipe for disaster. One minute everything was cool, then all of a sudden Tenderoni stands up and throws his hand across the table. Due to the sudden and irrational display of emotions all the drunken guest start snickering and chuckeling. Tenderoni decides to take it one step further and sweep all the cards off the table onto the floor and walk off. Instant ass whooping you would think, but again he's the only child in the room - who at this point is showing his age. I go looking for him and find his ass pouting by the stairs in the kitchen...LOL! So, I say "What was that all about?". He replies, "I quit." LOL! So, I ask, "Is that how you quit a game?" He says, "That nigga was pissing me off." OK. That just made a bunch of sense. At that point I'm intoxicatingly heated and ready to go because the guy he threw the cards at was some guy I didn't know and he was a street nigga who I could hear venting to his boys about how disrespectful Tenderoni's actions were. He was going on and on about how he wanted to take it outside. I wasn't about to let that happen at my girls house. So, we left. I bring it up again in the car and he blows up..."F that nigga! He was pissing me off and if you don't know him what difference does it make", etc. So, I calmly explain that he disrespected my girls house and everyone at the table that had to pick the cards up off the floor. He set there with his big ass lips poked out. When he pulls up to my house I say good night and get out. No sooner then I closed the door the fool pulled off. Mind you, it's about 4 in the morning now and I'm outside in the hood by myself walking to the door. Cool! I laugh because when you deal with kids you have to expect childish behavior no matter how mature they try to present themselves.

The next afternoon Tenderoni calls apologizing for everything. I accept his apology and tell him to have a good afternoon. Never ever, ever, ever will my name pop up across his screen and never ever, ever, ever will I invite his ass anywhere else.

That happened Saturday and here we are at the following Friday and I haven't heard from him since. If I ever hear from him again, it would be too soon. Geesh!

So, I am about to bounce to NYC and I will recap my weekend when I make it back.

Peace!
